36 Boutiques

i just found a great online magazine. i've heard about it for ages and been avoiding it for AGES. but it's cool filled with lookbooks and the like. here's the link eat your heart out http://www.36boutiques.com/store/default/drupal/book/view/339

Lola

I'm obsessed with her. She's not mine. I miss my dogs. I took these pics of her at a friend's farewell in Woodstock.

Will McBride

My very first influence. I bought his coffee table book "My Sixties" when I was working in a bookstore. I was 19 at the time, and it kind of jumped out at me. He has this slightly voyeuristic way of shooting and I only just realised how much he influenced me today :)

In his words: "A Photographer has only one thing to give to his photography. His whole being. The photographs should be the result of this involvement with the life around him."

Black & White Photography covet

Some black & white photogrpahy loves for your wednesday...

 Sally Mann
This photo, titled Candy Cigarette, not just displays something, it tells a story. It is both emotional and beautiful. This is what the originality of black-and-white-photography is all about.

 Toni Frissell
In her legendary photos Toni Frissell impresses with a strong trend toward surrealism or realism. The photo presented above, although in black and white, is both extremely sharp and clear. To achieve such level of clarity in black and white is extremely hard.

 Larry Louie
Woman Of Tibet. Realism at its best. Awarded with International Photography Awards in 2007.

Adam Hinton - Amazing journey and perspective.

Ezra Caldwell
Sometimes the moments from our life are the most valuable moments we should enjoy and keep in mind.

 Pedro Meyer
Pedro Meyer shows the life of people across the globe. This photo was taken in Rio De Janeiro.

Last night I dreamed in Black & White

My friend is recording a music video. we sat in my kitchen last night, and he told me about it. the images were striking and as i fell asleep i must have drifted back to his story in my subconscious because when i awoke this morning i realised i had been dreaming in black & white.

What I'm listening to

I'm listening to Made In Heights. It gives me an ache in my heart/ head/ stomach it's so beautiful. The beats are constructed with tender care, and strewn over with haunting female vocals. And every song is as good as the next one. I can't get enough of it and this is the kind of music I want to make. Listen to what I'm going on about here -

Mr Cat & the Jackal

Mr Cat & the Jackal are a great South African band. They are edgy and dramatic and always come up with something new to present to the crowd on stage. I took these photos at the Flamjangled Tea Party. They make GREAT subjects to photograph that's for sure!! ;) You can listen to their music here - http://onesheet.com/mrcatandthejackal/

Wavescape Film Festival

Wavescape is a film festival that's held once a year in summer on Clifton beach in Cape Town. They build a cinema right on the sand and you get to picnic and watch awesome surf movies at the same time. It's together with Go Pro, and it's a complete jol. if you're in Cape Town you should try not to miss it. Find out more information on Wavescape here - http://www.wavescape.co.za/

That night I had my Canon Powershot with me and not my SLR, and I took some really nice pics with it.
Small digital cameras are the way forward (I call them my 'handbag' camera) because you can take them out anywhere, clubbing, or up the mountain, and you don't have to lug your massive SLR around. or be terrified of it being damaged or stolen.

Hadrien Chatelet

In Still life. i snapped these shots of Hadrien at our house party where he was DJ'ing one night. He is French, currently lives in Nice/ London/ South Africa :) He is my good mate and husband to my best friend Jo. He is a fantastic Graphic Designer and Awesome DJ. yassis guys i miss you alot!! You can follow some of his ridiculously good sets here - http://soundcloud.com/kikiwithlove

Tarryn & Ashton

Ashton is my Producer, and he writes really good music too. You can listen to some of his music here - http://www.reverbnation.com/ashtongardner i love his voice and the way he puts a song together. he's brilliant on guitar, and piano. He asked me to snap some pictures of him and Tarryn playing for a charity auction event. i tooked 100's but my favourites are the weird quirky ones at the end that somehow didn't work out. sometimes pictures that are a 'mistake' are often the best because they are unposed, and i prefer those.
