The Middle East

i have to tell you about my Most Favourite Song of all time. This is an Australian band. called The Middle East. they sing a song called The Darkest Side. i suggest that you go and listen to it here. It's one of those songs that you can listen up to 10 times a day and not get sick of it. i wonder why it resonates so deeply with me? Is it because it's about Israel and so strongly reminds me of the time i spent there, of the people i loved and lost. is it just because it's structured so beautifully? or is it just because of the perfect balance of harmonies? i don't know. probably all of those things.

Lyrics: The Darkest Side

Love
It’s the air in your mother’s lungs
When her fathers tore her fences down
Plastic bags and the panadol was out

Love
Was a sold Gibson 335
And your father’s dream died that night
Just to keep that electricity on

And it’s the darkest side of my heart that dies when you come to me
And it’s the golden ticket I win when you kill my enemies
I hear the farthest cry and the softest sigh when I’m empty
But if you leave me I’ll hide in a game like SimCity

Oh when I die I’m alive
And when I lose I find
My identity

Son
If I died on my bedroom floor
Would you cry on your bedroom floor?
And tattoo my name underneath your arm

Love
That was alive in the olden days
Been put to death in this golden age
By our colour TV

And it’s the darkest side of my heart that dies when you come to me
And it’s the golden ticket I win when you kill my enemies
I hear the farthest cry and the softest sigh when I’m empty
But if you leave me I’ll get me gone and drown face down muddy in the water

Oh when I die…
When I die…

Die I’m alive
When I lose I find
My identity

Love
Was those dark clouds on the Friday
It was a holy shaking earthquake
And you were stuck up the tree

And it’s the darkest side of my heart that dies when you come to me
Oh it’s the golden ticket I win when you kill my enemies
I hear the farthest cry and the softest sigh when I’m empty
But if you leave me I’d hello goodbye and I don’t shine at night look I’m dead man

Oh when I die…
When I die…
When I die…

When I die I’m alive
When I lose I find
My identity

Fox Fire..

Fox Fire

In case you were wondering, Fox Fire is the name of my band. I usually play solo, but have decided to take on some instruments and musicians and create a different sound, violin, bass, lead guitar and drums. Let's see.

Alma Cafe

Alma Cafe is a great street corner cafe forgotten by time. Where people used to wander in and sit down and have a bite to eat and glass of wine and listen to some real folk music. They have asked me to play next Wednesday and I'm super excited. Here is my band teaser:

World Cup

World Cup fever is here. Cape Town kick off was so much fun. we drew with Mexico, especially good since our soccer team Bafana Bafana is rated 88th in the world. Anyway, i got to admit, i'm not so into it, i was concentrating more on Bozwell. Our mascot.

Paternoster - Weekend away

the first pics with my camera, there are 100's so i wont bore you with the details. i've found a new facination with boats and seascapes it seems. here goes:

i've been

busy busy busy. i've been playing Open Mike nights in Observatory every Tuesday night, for the last month, and jamming with my friend Carly, who plays violin. Recently the Barleycorn asked us to play, which we did, last night. It went so well. My heart sang when i saw all the people who'd made the effort to come out and watch us perform on the rainiest Monday night, thank you guys, i love you:)
