Muizenberg

I love taking photographs of old buildings. Cape Town has got some beauts, namely in the Woodstock and Muizenberg areas. These places are great to walk around in and visit the many second hand stores. Here are some of my pics I took recently.

Me singing Feist at the Quarry

That night we recorded a song at the Quarry. It cracks me up everytime I don't know why.

Cape Town Quarry - where I play music

This is the place where I like to go and relax and play guitar. It's called the Quarry and it's situated on the slopes of Table Mountain. You have to walk though a very dark and scary tunnel through the mountain to get to the Quarry, then you pop out onto the other side and it opens up onto a lake. I always kind of feel like the pied piper. like I've just gone through some weird magical journey. Here are some pics I took one evening.

Portraits in Paternoster - 60th Birthday commission

I LOVE taking photos at birthdays, this is my pet love. I love getting behind the camera, hanging out with people, getting to know them, and waiting till their guard is down just a little bit and THEN taking the photos. I'm good at making people relax (a technique that's really important but not easy) Here are a few of my faves that I took at Tom's 60th birthday bash in Paternoster. WHAL a jol. These older folks jol the hardest that's for sure!!

Miles Sievwright

This was a gig that Miles did on a hot December night in Cape Town. I snapped a lot of Miles that night but the first 4 images I captured of him preparing to get on stage are my favourite. He's a beautiful soul and musician. You can listen to some of his music here - http://soundcloud.com/milessievwright

Shadow Club

This year I went to Up the Creek and I took some photos of Shadow Club. They are by far the best South African band at the moment and are on an International level. These boys are going to go far. un-freaking-believable talent. Listen to their stuff here - http://www.myspace.com/theshadowclub And on You Tube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Psr_a-uBcGQ

Eye of the beholder

Fran and I went away for a weekend recently, and we got some time to mess around with our cameras before everyone arrived.  (he shoots on film which never ceases to amaze me) Here is a still life of Fran.

Great wedding moments - Wedding Commission - James and Marissa

Here are some moments I captured between people. They signify a special look, a glance, a private emotion shared, I love this between people. this was a really magical day shared with two stunning people.

Picture Monday

Oh Monday how I hate thee. I arrived to work only to find there's no caffeine. So I'm going on strike. I'm going to Blog rather, and catch you up on what I've been doing.

Easter was a blast. I spent it on a magnificent houseboat it Kraalbaai. It's an undiscovered gem only an hour's drive from Cape Town. It literally looks like that Amalfi Coast, or Turkey. It shows you don't have to travel far to find paradise in Cape Town.

Atlas Hands

There are no words for how much I love this song, Atlas Hands. It's by Benjamin Frances Leftwich. I've been playing his album on repeat and I never tire of him. I send this Friday video out to you. I hope you like it. Happy Easter weekend.

Love That's Gone

Katy Goodman, known musically as La Sera, has recently put out a new track called “Love That’s Gone”. This song is so right for me right now. It's slow and melodic, and the vocals embody a surfy, 50′s prom, kind of feel. Stream it below to get understand what I mean:
http://hypem.com/track/1k5mv/La+Sera+-+Love+That%27s+Gone

La Sera - Love That's Gone
I love my life without you,
You can't say a thing
I feel that I should tell you,
Can't do anything

You're holding on,
To love that's gone
And I'll be gone just as soon

I know that he'll believe me
Best be on your way,
I hope that I won't see you
As you drive away

You're holding on,
To love that's gone
And I'll be gone just as soon

[Ooooh~]

I'm better off alone now,
You might know I'll be
I wish that he would see you
Walk the wrongful way

You're holding on,
To love that's gone
And I'll be gone just as soon

I love my life without you,
You can't say a thing
I feel that I should tell you,
Can't do anything

You're holding on,
To love that's gone
And I'll be gone just as soon

You can't say a thing,
Can't do anything,
You can't say a thing.

Sharon Van Etten

Have you guys heard of Sharon Van Etten? I just found her today. She's totally on par with my sound, and her lyrics are spot on amazing. It's like she's taken the words out of my head and put them to music. You don't often get an artist for which you fall for, each and every song. This is Indie Folk at its best.

Reminder - cool Obs Party

I went to Tabitha's house-warming on Saturday. I met some cool people. I sat in the bath with Fran and sang to Caleb's guitar. It was fun. it was epic. and then we cut Fran's hair.

I played music with Julia who plays amazing accordian and harmonizes like an angel. She is going back to Sweden but I wish she wouldn't. I wish she'd stay so we can start a band. We cover First Aid Kit so well!!

Obs people are a cool clan and I love our musical family alot.
