Meandering - Kingdom

Yesterday I took a meander to the Woodstock Exchange, 66 Albert road Woodstock - http://woodstockexchange.co.za/ I found Vellies to die for, the perfect winter companian. I will save up for them and have them by next month. This shop has such good stuff! They are made in the Natal Midlands, and have them in Charcoal grey, Tan, Ink and Aubergine from Kingdom (you can find Kingdom's quirky Facebook page here and follow)

Hikes in Cape Town - Silvermine

Last weekend I went hiking in Silvermine. It is such a beautiful reserve. It's really great because it offers walks for all ages: flat, steep, all beautiful. I saw Cape Town from a totally different angle I'd never seen before, which was mindblowing. In winter you can hike, and in summer you can swim and picnic. It is also dog friendly :)

66 Square Feet

 

I found a gorgeous blog. It's called 66 Sqaure Feet. It's about New York: one woman, one terrace, and twelve seasons. http://66squarefeet.blogspot.com It's so simple and real and shows you how you can still be connected to life and nature even with a small bit of space to grow. She's got me into foraging, something we all used to do long ago. She also has a book, below, and was born in South Africa.

Journey

The time has come to journey, to start my inner journey, to journey within. to face up to some things and be honest with myself. To stop running. To communicate my feelings. Growing up I was not allowed to express negative emotions. Learnt behaviour patterns repeated over and over again. makes it difficult to change. I am waking up slowly to this and to other patterns in my life. Change takes work. and patience. and persistence. creating harmony. becoming conscious.

This weekend we added to our balcony garden. I already have Basil and Parsley and Rosemary, 3 herbs I can't live without and use in everything. But we added to this and bought big planting crates from Stodels Nursery, and planted:

Purple Sage (2 types)
Coriander
Rocket (2 types)
Mixed lettuce (4 types)
Kale
Climbing Jasmine
Thyme
Mint
Cat grass (cat is already loving it)
Chives

Our balcony looks so green and so fresh. I want to keep adding, its good for the soul.

Autumn

So much has happened in the last 5 months. we are in May already, Winter has dropped into the Southern hemispehere, and Summer has arrived to the North. It's the longest I've gone without writing. A strange time of introspection. a breakup (I'm grateful for my cat during this time, it sounds strange but pets are good for the soul when you're sad) and a new person to share my home with. The release of my 1st album, summer parties, Easter at Cape Point, friends having kids, home making, everything changes and yet everything stays the same. I am still living in Cape Town, traveling when I can, taking photos and making music.grateful.

Cape Town, South Africa -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/10/2014 -- Fiona Hare is a multi-instrumentalist: a singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist and drummer, raised on a farm in Hermanus, in the Hemel en Aarde Valley. Her father played the violin and mother the piano, so they started her young. She started playing the piano at 5, and naturally went on to play guitar, drums and didgeridoo in high school, taking Classical guitar as a subject. She has trekked across the Sinai desert with a drum on her back, seeking instruction from the Bedouins.

Fiona’s music hearkens to a raw resonance with nature, and she believes in the organic, un-jaded sound. She experiments with Dark Folk and Blues in the Indie folk genre.

Gigging at Cape To Cuba

There's a place in Kalk Bay where you can eat oysters and watch whales jump in the bay. It's called Cape To Cuba and its quirky and fun and a great vibe. This is where I sang on Saturday, I'll be there  till the end of this month, between 4 - 6pm on Saturdays so come down and share a cocktail or two. I'd love to catch up with you.

Exhibition night

Friday was Exhibition night at Bellovista Productions, of Sam Allerton. I went alone - this is often the best way, because you get into the art, on your own. In your own time, and in the way you want. Sam's drawings are funny and sad, and honest and raw and express everything you've ever felt, in tiny pen drawings. I grabbed the artist himself and inundated him with 100 questions. It was wonderful to hear his reasons behind his art, what drives him, and what they mean to him. Sam is honest and approachable and humble and I like that. He is a sculptor and photographer too. She gets it totally right here, with great big bottles of champagne flowing all night, and platters upon platters of delicious food. She is a great networker and tappas queen. What better way to spend a Friday night?

The Nomadic Picnic under the Tree

This weekend I jumped in the car and drove to Rawsonville where there was an amazing Folktronica party Under the Tree! It was held by Rooftop of Dreams. It was beautiful, set in a magical Pied Piper's valley, we danced under the setting sun surrounded by mountains, it felt as if you'd dropped off the end of the world. The venue Picadi Place out did themselves with beautiful picnic baskets and wine, local craft beer was supplied by the Dog's Bollocks, and brewed by Triggerfish Brewing. I won a free ticket to this event so it was AWEsome.
