Kalk Bay

I am writing about Kalk Bay again. We went to buy fish for a braai. I forgot about these pics I took because on the way, my friend gutted his car. It was pretty traumatic. We didn't get fish, but I did get some great pics..

The Liesbeek Bishopscourt Village

I have a friend who loves having her birthdays in parks, aka picnic style. I think it's a great idea. For her last birthday we went to the Liesbeek Park Village, which is absolutely beautiful, along the river. It is green and lush, and I had never been there before. It feels like you are in minature faerie land, where you'd expect to see a gnome or goblin peeking out at you. Here are some pics, but of course, they never do it justice.

Milnerton Market

Is a trip. You have to get there early before all the art dealers and antique jewelery snatchers. Here are some of the things I would like to have.

We went away to Onrus. we drank Absinthe. we ate and ate and danced and danced and played and played and walked by the sea. we ate marshmellows by the fire. we paddleskied at night. i loved this weekend.

Hanging out in hammocks

Getting out of your headspace is a good thing. going away helps. and camping is the best thing for clearing headspace. hanging out in hammocks and cooking on a fire. a simple task takes much longer. looking back on these pics i realise how happy and relaxed i am. these pics were taken on a farm in Slanghoek.

Hiking & happiness

This was on a day i felt free and light. we were kloofing in the mountains near Cape Town. It was a misty day and my friend had an underwater camera. everything seemed superimposed and mysterious. there's something that nature does to you. i was feeling moody before, but after the hike i felt on top of the world.

Stars at night

I like to go away where there's no electricity. where it's quiet and you can see the stars at night. this place is perfect for that. it has a wood stove where you must chop wood to feed the fire in order to boil water for your shower. everything takes longer than normal and you kind of get leveled out. here are my pics from my trip.

Swimming in dams at sunset

I love photography, I shoot relentlessly, mostly lifestyle, music and portraits. I had this idea of putting up all my facebook albums, kind of like a historical photo montage. here is the first one. it's shot on my friend jannie's farm in the Tulbagh mountains. it's absolutely beautiful out there. these are my best friends. and this is my favourite thing to do: swim in dams at sunset.

this weekend

Is for walking in forests and playing the blues. i'm not booked to do anything with anyone, be anywhere, or anything. i'm going to leisure around in slippers and gumboots and do what i want. thank goodness for weekends.

Robert Mugabe...What happened?

The documentary, “Robert Mugabe… what happened?” directed by Simon Bright and produced by Michael Auret, had its World Premiere at the Opening Night film of the Encounters South Africa International Documentary Festival last night. My partner spent endless hours on the post production, so I'm super proud of him. The movie is tragic and sad and eye opening for me, and a must see. Polana

Polana is my favourite place to go on a date in the middle of winter when the sea is storming, or for a party on a warm summer night. It is situated on the ground level of the Harbour House in Kalk Bay, and features a glass cocktail lounge built on the rocks, meters away from the crashing waves. In winter the fire place crackles in the lounge as huge flocks of cormorants trek across the bay. From late July whales are seen from distances as little as fifty meters away, while seals frolic in the kelp all year round. Polana restaurant is to meat what Harbour House is to fish. A superlative steak house by the sea, with truffles in the mushroom sauce and parties that rage till dawn.

Tretchikoff

"To know his work is to understand an artist who became a phenomenon. A man who never compromised because he was being lead by an all-encompassing drive to do what he loved, to paint. Even in the face of adversity, he continued to pursue his passion, unashamedly" 1913 - 2006

Tretchikoff was an exceptional painter. To finally view his paintings up close is amazing. I went to the exhibition on Sunday. His work is being exhibited at the South African National Art Gallery from the 25th May - 25th of September. You can also watch a documentary on his life's work which is totally inspiring. Tretchi kept doing what he believed in no matter what.

Cafe Mozart

This is a place every person should visit. Cafe Mozart is set in the bustling cobble stoned avenue of Church Street, amongst the buskers and vendors and antique jewelery sellers. It has it's own perfect vibe, and is typically Cape Town. Quirky, eccentric and a must, the food is delicious and hearty. They are open for breakfasts and lunches, and the best cheesecake I've ever tasted. Visit their website here http://www.themozart.co.za
